Requirements
- Operating System: Windows 11 client and host
- Hardware Security Key: Yubikey 5 series, excluding BioKey
- Network: Wired ethernet (optional but recommended)
How to set up
Client
- In the Parsec settings, navigate to the Experimental tab
- Enable Client - USB Device Passthrough (Experimental)
- Plug in Yubikey
- Set Client - USB Device Selection to select your Yubikey device
- Example: [0123456789] Yubico: Yubikey OTP+FIDO+CCID.
Host
- In the Parsec settings, navigate to the Experimental tab
- Install Parsec virtual USB (vUSB) driver v3.10.0 (or later)
- Restart Parsec
- Enable Host - USB Passthrough (Experimental)
In-session Settings
Once connected, the Yubikey device is transmitted from client to host. In the Parsec overlay, you can enable/disable the Yubikey for USB passthrough in the USB Devices menu.
Need to knows
- During a Parsec session, if the Yubikey is enabled for USB passthrough, it will be unavailable on the client until you disable passthrough of the key in the Parsec overlay. This is because it is transmitting the entire device via USB over IP.
- Yubikey support in Parsec has been validated for authentication but hasn’t been tested for advanced functionality like generating or storing certificates, firmware updates, etc.
Issues with passthrough
Client setting is stuck on 'Please wait' when turning on
It might be necessary on your system to install the Visual C++ Redistributable.
